I did some research and seen that this router has some firmware issues obviously.
My simple question is if i purchase this router and do not upgrade firmware will there be any problems? If i just use the base settings and then tweak the settings for how i see fit.
In the PDF file on the website it says it is equipped with Firmware 1.12
With gamerfuel turned on does it help with xbox's netflix service well?

Its a Sweet Router once I made the Firmware Upgrade the Wii's (Early Models) wouldn't connect anymore but it may also be a glitch in the Wii Firmware too :(....
When we got it for our LAN Center it had the Original v1.02 FW.....
as far a Netflix hopefully some one else has used netflix with and and has some insight... ;)

thanks for the reply im sure netflix works just fine im just overly curious.
im just making sure im not buying one with firmware thats junky and tons of problems

Other then the Our Wii's not Connecting anymore (v1.22NA) I haven't seen any Issues that I recall
Now if only they were Developing a DGL5400 or new even Newer Sounding lol

Maybe it might be the DGL 4700, since all the release of the gaming router they added 2. I really can't wait for the next gen even though this is alright for now.

I've had 3 4500s, Love this router. Works well out of the box for XBL and Netflix. Just got my 3rd 4500 A2 loaded with v1.21. Working great. I did run into issues with v1.21 on my A1, however that was fixed with v1.22.
I recommend using the router out of the box as is and don't upgrade until you fully trouble shoot the issue and it's as last resort. If it works, DON"T FIX IT!!! The A2 I finally got is working just as good that came loaded with v1.21 as my A1 does with v1.23.
Most issues seen here are either ISP or user configuration issues. Most can be resolved by doing some trouble shooting and make sure everything from the ISP, cables, ISP modem and down the line are in good working order. Everyone always seems to blame routers when they fail to look at the bigger picture.
-
Well FurryNutz with all the issues this router has faces, you can't really blame them. But they should give it a shot and not bash on it.

IMO most people seem to look first at the routers in general, not just the 4500, speaking any router. It's the first thing on the line they look at and expect to always work. For the most part they do. Its when external, user configuration or ISP problems that people fail to understand and realize that sometimes those issues can make it look like the router is the problem, when it really isn't. Not saying ANY router is faultless. Each do have there issues from time to time. I believe that in the most part, routers are working as designed. Sometimes I think people don't fully understand what OEMs do in designing the many routers and fail to fully research and review there needs before going to purchase. Sometimes the users needs far exceed the uses of some routers are designed for.
My 2 cents ;D

Not to rain on anyones parade about the next gen DGL, however, been told that the DGL probably will not be continued. I ways I hope not as the DGL has been a very good line for gaming and general use. I would love to see a DGL-5000 or something newer. Can keep the hope and make mention of it. I have dropped seeds of our dreams to higher ups. However, it comes down to money and the bean counters who have control. Heres to hoping though.
The 4500 is still a great router. :-*

Never under estimate user error. Even in yourself. To this day I find myself commiting a technical gaffe here and there. Calling a router a modem, confusing the ports for pop and smtp, saying megabyte when I really mean megabit. Point is, never take anyones word for anything. Not the ISP's, not the manafacture, not even this forum. Use all of us as a source of information, but only as a part of your continued research. In the end, you bought the product, and there for it belongs to you. Unless you want to return it, its up to you to get it to work.
More on topic, I have been quite happy with my DGL-4500. But look around. Check out the simulator for it. Read the reviews on Newegg, Tiger and Cnet. Just have realistic expectations. It will not make your internet any faster it is direct to the modem. It will not decrease your lag. It will not protect you from viruses. No router (in this price range anyway) will.
