Title: Missing Files on 323??
Post by: TJ on May 25, 2011, 04:12:50 PM
I've been using beta 1.10 as the builds are released on two boxes (we'll call them DATA and MEDIA). Data is running standard volumes, and I use synchronizing software to scan the contents once a week (yes, there is a third backup elsewhere).

Today I did a scan, and no files were on volume_2! I mapped the volume to a drive letter, and while windows 7 reported that I had 377GB free of my 1.34TB, the volume also appeared empty to windows explorer! My first attempt to restore to factory settings did nothing but reboot the machine (I'm 90% sure I hit "Restore To Factory Default Settings" and not "Restart"). The second attempt was successful, and I can now see my files, but what the heck??

I did recently restore my settings from a config file that was made originally in 1.10 build6, if that was in error shouldn’t my files have been made unusable instantly? It may be worth noting that all of my electronics were shut down then unplugged for five days this week.

I am currently setting everything back manually, and while there doesn't appear to be any data loss, I'm a bit unsettled.

It could be the signs of a disk failure. A reboot would kick in the recovery.

What file system type?
Do you have the smartmon tools installed? Are there any SMART errors?

Both volumes are EXT3. As far as I know, I have no way of checking SMART status as I am not funplugged.
