Title: Vonage Phone Adapter Behind a DIR-655
Post by: ShawnTRD on January 21, 2009, 05:28:29 PM
Note: I'm not seeing any problems. I'm just looking to optimize my VOIP Phone.

So I have my Vonage Router (Motorola VT2442) Behind my DIR-655. And I wanted know if there are any tips you have to making sure there is nothing that interferes with the VOIP of Vonage. Could I setup DMZ on the 655 for Vonage Router IP? Or is there something else I should look at. Thanks

If it works as it is, I would leave it alone.

I've had my Vonage adapter behind my DIR-655 for two years now with no problems. I made no special setup adjustments.

My network has some pretty heavy WAN bandwidth users on it, particularly video streaming, up and down, and I've never seen a problem.

Vonage needs about 90kbps, which is tiny compared with most WAN connections.

The only circumstances which might require special setup are if you have a really slow WAN connection, or if you have some application which hammers your WAN connection (like torrents or a busy web site).
