I don't know if I have posted this to the right place so please excuse me if I offend someone. I recently was given a D Link DS-2780 by my ISP TalkTalk. It works fine - straight out of the box and loads of power. As well as the usual 4 x LAN sockets, it has a USB port so I thought I would plug in my external hard disk, a 1T Western Digital, to use as a network drive. The USB light on the DS-2780 went on but the light on the WD disk just flashes and the drive is not 'visible' to explorer or the Windows control panel. On the Admin software nowhere does it mention the USB port, other than to say when describing the USB light that it goes on when the USB port is active. I am using MS-Windows 7 on my LAN machines and MS-Windows XP professional on the WLAN machines. Any help will be gratefully received

Does the 2790 meantion any additional SW that needs to be used to access the connection? Something like Shareport?
-
NOPE ! The user guide makes no mention of additional s'ware or shareport. It treats the USB as though it was not even there.
But thanks for replying.

Ya, I would contact Dlink and ask about this. Might be faulty or something not working right?
