I am using firmware 2.0 and now I get a huge amount of log entries, saying
May 27 22:30:53 Howinas smbd: CIFS: Authentication for user [Guest] has FAILED.
At the same time the NAS is not accessible anymore, but comes back after 10-20 secs.
In the meantime it is still pingable.
That means , playing a video might or might not work - no good.
I had similar, men less frequent errors with firmware 1.0, but there it showed not only user Guest,
but sometimes also Root, followed by a message saying access to share ..... has been closed ( or similar )
To have more control, I also defined users and shares permissions, but the log entries keep coming.
Any suggestions ? Could using NFS help ?
Thanks, Wolfgang

What operating system are you using to access the NAS? I ask because win7 appears to be giving many people problems.

It is Windows 7, but also Vista and embedded Linux devices.
The message is always the same >
May 31 07:50:01 dlink-FFE4D8 smbd: CIFS: Authentication for user [Guest] has FAILED.

More info :
This message appears twice, every 20 seconds.
Twice could be because there are two shares.
All shares are read/write for everyone.
From the logfile I cannot see which client is trying to connect.

Be Glad ... Fixing it didn't help at all... My mediastreamer would connect to the NAS..Giving also those errors but in version 2.0 it would still continue (so i could treat the nas as an external; harddisk.. browdsing volumes and folders... after updating to 2.02 this is " Fixed" but i can trow my zyxel dma-2500 in the garbage because it will only work with DLNA now (So no DVD copies, Subtitles, and s***ty streaming capp.
If you are on 2.00 ... STAY THERE.. there is NO WAY OF GOING BACK once 2.02 is installed !!
