Title: DNS-320 formatting drive without giving any warning notice
Post by: dusterio on June 01, 2011, 05:40:21 AM
Hi guys!

I decided to upgrade from DNS-313 to DNS-320 today. Took the hard drive from old device, put it into new. Launched setup wizard from CD that was included in the box.

DNS-320 setup wizard formatted my old drive (deleted all data) without giving any notice or warning! I checked the manual - it's supposed to warn you and show a yes/no dialog.

Has anybody experienced this? Did you receive the warning before formatting?

Any ideas if it's possible to recover the data?

It's so terrible - collecting data for ages and then losing in 5-10 seconds because of wizard misbehavior!

The wizard does not format your drive on its own. There are steps in the wizard and there IS a confirmation page and I believe a popup in the wizard that the drive will be wiped. Please see my response on your other thread regarding this.

According to User Manual - there is a confirmation dialog. In reality - there was none. If necessary - I can try to repeat the setup process and make screenshots.

That's why I was surprised if not shocked - rather simple questions (like choose your password) and then suddenly - "formatting in process".

I installed a new hard drive today, and I went directly to web control panel.

It DID ask me before formatting.

So the problem is only with setup wizard included on CD - that piece of software doesn't give any warnings.
