Title: Battlefield Bad Company 2
Post by: usmarine0622 on June 07, 2011, 08:59:18 PM
Hey guys I have a question. When I try to play Battlefield Bad Company 2 on my ps3 I get disconnected after about 2 minutes of game play. I thought it was just PSN so I tried playing it on my PC and the same thing happens. I can play for about 2 mins then i get kicked out of the server back to the main menu. I can play all of my other game online just fine without any problems. I contacted EA and they said it's not their server (my buddy confirmed it because it is not having any issues playing) and told me to forward some port on my router. When i forwarded the port for Battlefield Bad Company 2 every computer in my house including my vontage device can not access the internet at all. It still has connectivity, but the internet does not work. When I remove the ports I forward all of my computers have access to the internet again. That is weird because that has never happened before. You guys have any tips on what I should do to be able to play Battlefield Bad Company 2. Oh when I set my PS3 to demilitarized zone, I am able to play for 15 minutes before it kicks me out of the server.

I have a DIR-655 and play BC2 all the time.  All I have ever done is make sure UPnP is enabled on the router and it handles everything, I have done NO port forwards of any kind.  Check to see if you have a UPnP setting and whether its enabled or not.

Check out the Gaming and Gamefule sticky over on the DGL-4500 forum. The UI is different as you'll have QoS however you can use the data and will work for this router. Let us know if you need more help.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
How are you connecting to the router? Wired or wireless?

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

I have comcast with a stand alone modem, the router is not build into the modem. My PS3 and my desktop is connected to my router via Cat5. I check all of the settings you listed and they are all correct except it was not pulling the DSN i have to manually type it in. Before I typed it in I checked the status and the DNS servers were listed so I'm not to sure what that is about im testing it out now. I will let you know how it go

Is DNS relay enabled under Setup/Networking?
It should be pulling DNS automatically.
Let me know. Maybe we can Team Viewer and I can check your router for ya.

Really, interesting,
So you set up Gaming and Gamfuel rules?
What happens if you only use the gamefuel rules and temp disable Gaming rules?
Title: Re: Battlefield Bad Company 2
Post by: usmarine0622 on June 08, 2011, 09:34:53 AM
I had game fuel set up already, when I set up gaming rules I still get disconnected. If i try to forward the ports for Battlefield Bad Company 2 all of the computer and ps3 on my network can no long access the internet. Once i remove the port forward rules the internet is restored.

Seems odd that the other games work but BF2 doesn't.
What happens if you disable Gamefule and keep Gaming rules enable?

What HW version is your router? A or B#?

Also are you using Port Forward or Application options?

I had an issue very similar to this while trying to play 'Need for Speed: Shift" online (also an EA game). I could play for just a minute or two before getting kicked out of a race. There might be a better way to resolve this problem, but the one thing I did which worked was to put my PC's assigned IP address into a DMZ. After doing this, I never got dropped.

You can add your PC to the QoS engine as well and give global ports and remote IP address ranges and set a priority instead of using DMZ.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you I was in a meeting. I have revision B and I tried to DMZ my desktop but tried playing it but i still got kicked off but I am able to play longer (10 mins before i got kicked out) .

Does the PS and BF2 work ok if it's directly connected to the cable modem?

I think we need to start over from scratch.
Lets do a factory reset.
Add a DHCP (Static) reservation for the PS.
Setup a QoS Engine rule for the PS only. Use the Gamefule sticky information. Should be able to use Global IPs and ports: 0.0.0.0-255.255.255.255for remote IPs/0-65535 for ports.
Don't setup any Port Forwarding or Application rules, yet.

Test the PS only on this and see if BF2 still disconnects.

So I went out and bought the linksys E4200 and I'm not having any problems and my connection is a lot faster. I don't know what the deal is with the router, I had to restart it at least 3 times a week for my wireless to work. I think im going to stay away from Dlink for awhile until they smooth things over.

Sorry it didn't work out. I wish we had more of a chance to see how your settings were set up to make sure they were correct. Hope the new router works well. Enjoy.

to be honest I dont think it was the settings everything was working fine up until a month ago. I did not have any problems connecting to EA servers. I did not change anything or add anything new to the network, it just stopped working one day and the wireless performance dropped and turned off completely at times. I would have to restart the router to correct the problem

Wish we could verify this 825..I need to load up BF2 on my xbox and check it. Been playing MW2, Halo and Black ops mostly. Last time I played BF2 was about 3 months ago on the 4500.

wonder if there is any external interference going on too there.

Hi Guys,

I'm jumping in late but the subject attracted my attention as I have a DIR-825 and play a lot of Battefield BC2 on my PC.

A few months ago I updated the firmware from 2.02 to 2.05 and I was quite happy with all the bug fixes BUT the EA servers would now kick me after 1 or 2 minutes of online game play. I Couldn't find a fix so I had to revert to firmware 2.02

usmarine0622  ... What version was the firmware on your DIR-825?

FurryNutz ... Your sig says your running firmware 2.03 and I assume that is working okay for your DIR-825 for BC2 and the EA servers?

My dilemma is I need to be able to filter MAC addresses on my home LAN but it v2.02 only allows MAC addresses starting with "00:" and of course all the newer ipods, laptops, smart phones etc start with MAC addresses like "cc:" etc.

Firmware 2.05 fixed all that but broke BC2 with the EA servers for some reason. I get stubborn about trying to find a fix but at this point I may just have to switch to non DLink router.

Cheers.

Randy, this is good information man. Thanks for your input. I can't verify that my PC and BF2 and EA servers work with my 825 as of yet. I don't have a EA account as I mostly gaming on XBL. I do have BF2 for PC just haven't bought an account. Do they have a trial by chance? It would be interesting to see if 2.03 has the same issue.

USM, can you revert back to 2.02 and see if this clears the BF2 issue for you? I'm curious if it does, then we might be able to get DLink to look into it.

Let us know. I'll fire up my PC and see what happens for BF2.

Hi FurryNutz,

I purchased BC2 through Steam for my PC. The EA servers are still accessed when you run the game though and that's what would ultimately kick me offline.

I skipped right from v2.02, which was default when I bought my DIR-825, to v2.05. I should probably give v2.03 a try to see if its okay with BC2 and my MAC address octet problem. The MAC address problem is well documented in the forums.

Cheers.

This seems to be a serious issue with the Dir 855, Mhmm I guess after all it may be a bad firmware? usmarine0622 Try loading 2.02 and let me know that you are not getting kicked. If these issues persist FurryNutz will continue to help you guys out! (Hello Nutz)

I tried firmware 2.03 and it also kicks me out of BF BC2 as v2.05 did.

I'm hoping DLink can fix this plus the MAC address octet problem.

Maybe I'll try the open source WRT firmware but I'm a little nervous about turning the router into a brick.

Is the Mac address problem seen in v2.05?

The v2.05 fixed the MAC address problem for me and I was very happy about that since I had to create rules for my kids stuff ... PSP Go, iTouch, Blackberry, PS3, and a new laptop. All the new stuff DOESN'T start with"00:".  Yes I'm an old gamer :)

I'm excited to see PrimeTime's note about changing the firewall settings to 'Endpoint Independent'.

PrimeTime, did you set that for both UDP and TCP? How did you find this solution?

Cheers,
RandyS

Hi,

didn't notice either Furry had actually mention this already although I thought I'd checked previous posts ::)

I found this info in an EA forums (http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/315/420456.page) and it worked for me so I thought it would be worth mentioning here also.

The one you need to change according to the post is the TCP setting but I changed both UDP & TCP to be safe :)

My DIR-825 FW is 2.05EU

Cheers guys
