I'm suspecting my DNS 323 is on its way out after 2 years >:(, as it seems to have some sort of serious bottlenecking issue as of late that I can't seem to figure out. If I got a DNS 320, could I just pop these 2 drives into it without having to reformat or anything? Thanks.

As I learned last week, no, they have to be reformatted. Pain in the ass and lengthy, but done.

I have the same question and posted a question in the DNS-323 forum where I was told they could be moved if Standard. However it seems that is not so. My problem is that I was using my DNS323 as a file server for all my media files, and the power supply failed. If there is no way to move data off an undamaged disk when the power supply fails then has D-Link not thought through all of the scenarios of how loss of data can occur? ???

If all you need to do is copy files from the disks then it can be done with a computer. If your computer runs windows then you need to get Ext2IFS (google is your friend) and install it then you can plug your drive in and copy to your heart's content. If you are running Linux then just plug in the drive and again copy away. The Ext2IFS will even allow you to use an SATA to USB caddy to do the job.
This, of course, assumes your drives are not damaged physically and you have enough space on another drive for the copy.
Once you have copied them, put the drives in the DNS-320 and format them then you can transfer the files back.

Thanks for that; I guess I was thinking that the HDD from the DNS323 would have some obscure O/S on it that W7 wouldn't recognise but Ext2IFS is the answer. Great! It should then simply be a task of copying from the SATA USB caddy device straight through to the DNS320 that's already on the network. Thanks so much
Except I can't install Ext2IFS under Windows 7 Professional - incompatible ???

Sorry about that but I don't have any version of windows on a PC, only XP running in a VM.
There is another thread that mentions other Ext2 IFS drivers for windows and I was sure that someone had it running on win7. Maybe a hunt on google might find a driver that works on your win version.
Edit: OK, I went looking on google and found the following:
1) To install Ext2IFS in Windows 7, right click on installer "Ext2IDS_1_11a.exe" wateva then -> Conpatibility -> Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 3) -> OK. Run again and bung?works fine*
*With Ext2/3 and Windows 7 x86/x64

3) Try googling ext2fsd instead. It doesn't need "compatibility mode" in Windows 7.

Try "R-Studio". DNS owners have used this application with a measure of success and the application should work on Windows 7.

Ya isnt that what you said to me too?
I would take it back the dns 320 firmware has many security holes in it, d link refused to released a working firmware.
Than you harass you if you want to get the problems fixed....
