Title: Data Transfer across network
Post by: dagger_99 on June 19, 2011, 06:05:45 AM
I have recently been encountering file transfer probles across our network from wireless to wired, and vice versa. The transfer will start and process about 50% and then we lose internet connection, and it requires a router reboot to get connectivity again?

What wireless modes is the router set for?
Try testing single mode G and N on each radio.
Any third party firewall/anti virus programs running?

The router was set for mixed "n" and "g" mode to accommodate the 2 machines. Both the 2.4 and 5 were enabled.
I have closed of the 5 GHz band, and am trying the single modes, although if this does work it will pose a problem.
The system is running on Windows 7 using Microsoft Security Essentials. Until I upgraded to firmware 2.05 everything worked well, so I am not sure if that would be the issue.

I made the adjustments as above and the systems still will require a reboot. The interesting thing (and maybe a hint) is that when this happens, only the LAN (wired) stops working, but the wireless still remains connected.

Keep us posted on it.

reboot? reboot of the router or the device when doing xfers?
What FW version is currently loaded?

Ok, for clarity, when I transfer files accoss the network from wireless to wired device, it will partially transfer the file, and then I will receive a message that the device (Computer) is no longer seen from the transferring machine. Only when you reboot (restart?) the router will you once again be able to see the other computer.

I am using 2.05NA. I didn't have this problem using 2.03NA

reboot? reboot of the router or the device when doing xfers?

Lets try a factory reset and don't load any saved configuration files.

Setup Reserved (Static) IP addresses on the router for your devices.
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Ensure Advanced DNS Service is disabled if you have this option.
Ensure DNS Relay is enabled.
Set up Single mode G with out any security and test a file xfer between wired and wireless. Need to see if this happens with or with out security. Try setting WPA2 and AES and test again.
