Title: DIR-655 Rev B - admin interface is hung
Post by: johnpjackson on June 21, 2011, 10:59:50 AM
Bought a new DIR-655 Rev B a few weeks ago.  It's been performing great.  Until now  :P

It's web admin interface has failed in some way.  The device is still passing all user traffic in both directions, but attempts to connect to the admin interface with my web browser, from both the wired inside and the WAN outside fail.  I can telnet to the actual tcp port number that it's configured for and establish a connection, but I can't get any response from it.  At this point I'm expecting the only way I'm going to clear the condition is to power cycle the device when I get home from work.  It may also be helpful to note I have the device configured for https for the admin interface.  Perhaps that's the more 'advanced' feature that's newer and is exhibiting some kind of bug, I wonder.  I'm running the latest firmware available from D-Link.  Has anyone else seen this, and if so, know of any fix in the works, etc.?  Thanks :)

What FW is currently loaded?

Try a different browser? Opera or FF to test?

Hrmm.  No luck there either.  I was using Chrome to begin with.  Just tried IE, same issue.  I should also add that this has come on suddenly.  All has been working fine with access this way until late this morning.  The next time I went to refresh the page open to the admin interface, it wouldn't reload.  Now it's remaining that way.  I'll leave it like this for a while longer before power cycling the unit, just in case anyone things of anything else to check.  I just tried installing the Yahoo D-Link widget too, and it also indicates "ip address error" for the gateway.

I would do a factory reset of the router.
What ISP service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand alone or built in router?
What FW is currently loaded?

Running: Firmware Version :     2.01NA , 25, Nov, 2010

Also found when I got home that new wireless clients couldn't connect.

WAN side is connected to Toshiba SB5120, supplied by Comcast.

A power cycle has cleared up the issue for now.  I can do a factory reset if it happens again but I'm doubtful that would touch the issue.  The device is newly configured from factory new just a few weeks ago, and that was right after loading the firmware above onto to it, after taking it out of the box.

Does anyone know if D-Link is working any newer revisions of the firmware?  Sometimes you get lucky and things like this get magically fixed that way :)

Also make sure the cabling is in good working order, swap cables too. I recommend CAT6

Try turning off QoS options, Set WiFi modes from mixed to Single mode G or mixed G and N if you have any supported devices.

Ensure primary and 2ndary DNS addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual
Ensure Advanced DNS Service is disabled.
Ensure DNS relay is enabled.

Keep us posted.
