I am having DIR-655 router. When I try to connect to ad-hoc network in windows 7 premium my laptop gets stuck and then I have to forcefully restart my laptop...I have tried several ways by updating my wireless card's drivers but in no vein.. However when I try to do the same thing from my college network this problem seems to have gone...But from my home network I again and again get this problem and so I don't know why is it happening so .I have even tried by turning my firewall off but same problem persists ...Can you suggest any solution...
Thanks

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.
Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.
What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA2.

Thank you for your reply.. Your help was indeed valuable as my problem was solved after I made changes as mentioned by you..Thanks one again..Could you do a favor by explaining what was the root cause of the problem? I mean what was obstructing me to create ad hoc network..

It's possible that ADHoc networking was resolved by setting up reserved or Static IP addressing on the router so each device maintains it's own IP address that never changes. Some networks require this so that if something happens like the IP address changes suddenly, it won't break settings that you set up.
