Title: Repeated hard drive failure?
Post by: akkgfk on January 24, 2009, 06:58:46 PM
I've recently bought the DNS-321 and set it up with 2 1TB drives RAID 1. After 2 days, the left hard drive turns a purple color (not amber like the documentation says) and I get an email notification telling me that my left hard drive has failed.

OK, no sweat... it was a new drive but things happen. I replace the left hard drive with another new drive, re-synch and all that good stuff. 2 more days later, the left drive fails again.

I am suspicious. Anyone else have this problem. Seems a little bit of a coincidence to me. Before I go thru the hassle of replacing this drive again, I want to try to find out if there's something wrong with the NAS. Of course, D-Link support ignores me emails.

are these perhaps seagate or diamondmax drives?

They are indeed Seagate drives.  Is there something up with the firmware in the drives perhaps?

I'm surprised you haven't heard about this. see:

good luck!

Thanks!
I knew there was something fishy going on.
