Title: Extremely slow LAN file transfer (16KB/s)
Post by: mbevier on June 27, 2011, 07:08:11 AM
Hey all,

I recently switched from an older 10/100 linksys to this gigabit router from D-Link.  However, when I try to transfer files from one computer to another on the LAN, the file transfers are ridiculously low, right around 16KB/s.  I have CAT6 cable for all connections, but am baffled by what could cause such a slow speed.  I'm trying to transfer files from my desktop (win7) to my server (Windows Home Server 2011).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any 3rd party Anti Virus or firewall programs running.
Are your PC GB NIC supported?

I have the windows security essentials anti-virus running on the desktop, and standard firewall settings for both machines.

Is there a list of supported GB NIC?  I have:

Marvell88E8056 PCI-Express (server)
Realtek 8111E  (desktop)

Can you temp turn off All security SW and windows firewall?
Are you seeing GB connections on the icon by the time, bottom right?

Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.
