Title: 2 connections to same PC cause an issue?
Post by: zim2dive on July 08, 2011, 05:11:05 AM
Moved recently and ended up with a linux box distant from a hardware connection... so I bought a Dlink bridge and used that for a while, but have been underwhelmed by the latency... so I bought a 802.11n USB unit and plugged that in to the linux box...

So the topology is

655 -> (wireless) -> PC
655 -> (wireless) -> Bridge -> (wired) -> PC

the 655 status page shows both MAC addresses, each with their own IP addr.

I have virtual servers set up to port forward web traffic to the PC, and moved those from the wired path thru the Bridge, to the wireless path.

If I only have 1 of the 2 paths connected, I can make it work.

when I have both connected, I can't reach the PC.

I would HOPE the router is using the MAC addrs for all routing decisions.. tho I do see the same computer name listed next to the 2 entries, so that makes me worried a tad (given that its not working in those cases).

am I missing anything obvious?

A little more info

FROM the PC I can see both the Bridge (DLINK DAP-1522) and the DLINK 655... and I can get out from the PC.. I just can't get back in from outside.. the virtual server port forwarding on the 655 seems broken.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

totally irrelevant.. as stated packets from outside make it to the 655 just fine.. its from the 655 to the PC which is the issue.  655 -> wireless bridge -> PC works.. 655->direct wireless does not

that would for for outgoing.. not relevant here
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.
all machines, and both interfaces on this machine have reservations and as stated in OP are getting IP addr's just fine.  As stated outgoing direction works fine.

Double check on the 655 admin pages, Advanced > Advanced Wireless that WLAN partition is unchecked.
