Hi,
Just bought a DIR-655 and am generally VERY happy with it. Updated the firmware to 1.05 right at setup, but here's my question.
When I'm the only one tx/rx on the wlan, speeds are outstanding, when my son logs on also, it totally slows me to a crawl-takes forever to load pages, etc. I'm Wi-FI N and he's G and have the router set to GN only. Not sure why this is happening-
More info-the internet connection is from a comcast cable modem to the dir-655-set up with wpa2, and no other changes from default.
Am I missing something? I asked him what he was doing, and at the time he said dloading his iTunes. Any help?

Any use of G cards on the network causes the system to operate at G speeds max only. The N/G radio switches modes when it detects a G device. You should upgrade all your cards to N.

Thanks for that info ;D -but what I'm seeing is serious degradation of speed for me-not just down to 54Mbps-that would be acceptable-it's causing me to load pages at less than dial-up speeds, takes like 5 minutes for me to load a page, while he operates just fine? He has the Intel 3945ABG and I have the Intel 4965 N both with the newest drivers?

Change the channel width to 20 instead of 20/40.
Intel cards are silliy like that.

great- I'll try that.
One other question?
Do I need to set the card in the laptops from auto to 20 only too?
???

Lycan,
THX-that did it!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D Haven't been able to test it till just now when my son got home, but yup, switching the DIR-655 to 20MHz only solved my download problems!!!!!! Thanks again. ;)

Agreed Automatic is not your friend
use WPA2 only mode also, that will boost speeds.

ya made me think-but, yup I'm WPA2 AES only!!!
;D
Thx everyone for your help, ohh, and since he'll be going off to school soon, I'm going back to N only soon too! 8)

Auto mode is only used with D-Link adapters top achieve the theoretical 300Mbps.

okey dokey-
thx for the clarification!
