Here's my setup:
1. I have a DSL modem + wireless + router
2. I have a Vonage phone that taps into one of the LAN ports
3. I have DIR 655 router that taps into one of the LAN ports
4. I have NAS that taps into one of the DIR 655 LAN ports
5. I have Printer that taps into one of the DIR 655 LAN ports
6. I have a BD Player that connects to DIR 655 through wireless.
Here is my issue:
All my components that are tied to DIR-655 resolve through IP address. I would like to have the resolution through host name as it works with my first router (DSL Modem / Router). Identifying components with IP address is not only inconvinient in terms of reading / recognizing my components but ther could be other issues. I am not very techie on the networking side but I do have some basic knowledge. So if you can please help me out what I am missing here, I will really appreciate.
Thanks,
Picaso

Try this:
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Ensure each device is give a hostname on the device which should show up in the routers dynamtic dchp clients list.

Thank you for a quick response. 192.168.0.1 is the router IP. Keeping this in mind, here's my response:

- Yes I have reserved IP addresses. Here's an example. I have 192.168.102 reserved for my NAS which goes by "DiskStation".
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address - In general they are like the BD Player. But in case of my NAS, I can't because I have port forwarding enabled to access it from internet. (Sorry forgot to add about the port forwarding).
Ensure each device is give a hostname on the device which should show up in the routers dynamtic dchp clients list. - Yes each device has a host name and they do show up as hostnames.
My issue is that I am constrained to use IP address. So to access NAS, I have to use http://192.168.0.102/:5000/webman/index.cgi instead of http://diskstation:5000/webman/index.cgi.

Can anybody please help? I am still unable to resolve names on my network. As a result I am having issues setting up my scanner (printer worked fine by substituting printer name with IP address).
Also it would be nice to resolve my NAS by name instead of IP so that users can remember.

I think you need to apply a dedicated switch to your setup and put all PCs and the NAS on it then it will probably see local host name resolution.

Thanks for your response. What kind of switch will I need? And how will it help? Can you please provide some more information as I am unable to follow you.
Thanks again.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_switch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_switch)
So the setup would look like this:
ISP modem> Router> Switch <All devices connected to switch.
Dlink has some switches available too.
