Title: how to set up new network from existing router ?!?!
Post by: geo248 on July 16, 2011, 10:55:52 AM
Hi,

Just got through a dlink 615 router so im trying to set up a new network. So downstairs i have a netgear g router, this is then hardwired to a switch, from there i have another cable running upstairs and into my d link router.

I am using snow Leopard OS, and using VMWare was able to use the quick setup on the associated disc but could only reach the stage where i connect my ethernet to router before it would display an error message stating it was unable to find a router.

I then tried manually setting up the router online using
192.168.0.1
but was unable to get a working connection running over the wireless and i was only able to give this page when hardwired to the d link router.

Sorry for any confusion over my setup (Long and unnecessary i know but the parents like there set up!)

Any help regarding any known issues and work arounds would be much appreciated

How is the HW set up and wired? Not I understand how your setup is done up.
Preferred networking setup is in the following manor:
ISP modem>Router>Switch>wired devices.

Are you using 2 routers on the same network? Preferred is one and you can use a 2nd one to create a wired access point for wireless.
