Hey Guys.
I'am new in this forum.
Yesterday I updated from Snow Leopard to Lion and since that no TM backup is possible any longer ... the message that the backup volume doesn't support AFP-functions let lion make no backup. I found out that Apple disabled the feature to make TM backups via SMB.
What can I do ... I've tried to add afp to the DNS-323 but something went wrong.
Please I really need the TM.
Maybe there will be a fix or the addition of full afp-support in the next firmware update of the DNS-323?
thanks

I have the same Problem. Please fix it!

You could try asking Apple for a fix since they created the problem.

new version of AFP is not a bug, it is a development. I don't think, that apple will downgrade the AFP version ;D

I've got the same problem, and the FTP from mac have troubles.
If someone know how to fix, please help us.

Due to security reasons, OSX Lion requires the latest version of AFP3.3 to be on the NAS (SAMBA support has been dropped). These NAS devices use something called Netatalk to host AFP services, which makes Time Machine possible. NetAFP (the developer behind NetTalk) has released Netatalk 2.2 which includes AFP3.3 (based on GPLed and open-source code) to their paying clients which fixes Time Machine compatibility in Lion.
D-Link needs to work with NetAFP to upgrade their firmware to use the latest version of Nettalk. Until they do that, TimeMachine will not be able to connect to the DNS-323.
Are these forums monitored by D-Link support? Most other NAS vendors have addressed the issue and that they are working with NetAFP to resolve the issue for their users.

Hey again.
First: Thank you for your help!
Second: I've got some news about Netatalk2.2 on the DNS-323 ... a found this interesting thread (http://forum.dsmg600.info/viewtopic.php?id=6637&p=2). The community works to enable netatalk2.2. on the DNS-323 over the FFP which should make TM-Backups possible again!
Greetz!

I saw earlier in this thread that DNS needed time to make the fix for this problem.
After a year, one would have hoped for a) a fix and b) clear instructions for how to implement a fix (preferably "cook book" in nature, so that the reader is not required to have UNIX expertise.)
Next time I purchase a NAS drive, I think I will remember this experience and look for vendors who were more responsive in this matter. ...unless, of course, someone from DNS reads this and posts a suitable response.
Respectfully,
Chris
