...just tested out SharePort v1.14 and it still fails to operate when VMWare Server 1.x/2.x and Workstation 6/6.5 is installed.
Once removed, SharePort works normally. This can be repoduced on Vista 64, Seven 64, and XP Pro.
This behavior has continued since 0.94 was released in August 2008.

VMware uses emulated drivers for USB devices (which the Shareport Dlink driver more or less is). It is very well possible that Dlink driver either conflicts with the USB emulators or VMware just does not accept the emulation the Dlink drivers next to its own emulation.
Just have a look at the devices that VMware installs.
I guess this inevitable, looking at the way both Shareport and VMware minic USB devices.

I'm quite sure you're on the right track. I decided to keep the technical details short since I've reported this issue three times now, they probably "got it" the first time I said something. :)

Looking at a possible solution I think it will be very difficult to avoid this USB driver clash.
