Title: No or very slow connectivity with Router
Post by: mnaath on July 26, 2011, 10:59:42 AM
Okay... moved to a new house (2 blocks from old house). Comcast cable internet. Disconnected PC/modem/router/Ooma box etc... from old house, 2 hours later it was all set up and re-connected at new house.

All appeared to be working. Comcast installer left. Only then did we notice that it was taking 10 min. for google.com to load. I could not get onto my work (VPN) because it would time out while trying to load. Then I connected PC directly to modem, bypassing router. Great speeds and no problems (~30mbps). Reconnected router and speeds dropped to less than 5 mbps!

Remember this is the EXACT same equipment that was working fine 2 hours previous! And same internet provider. Reset to Factory Defaults. Still no go.

What the heck happened in those 2 hours to cause this problem and better yet...any solutions??

It just makes no logical sense whatsoever.

Thanks so much!!

I am about ready to return the D-Link (purchased at Costco 10 months ago) and try something else. But am just confused as to what has gone wrong!? Please don't be afraid to state the obvious here if you think of something...we will try anything and may be overlooking something very obvious.

Possible that you didn't use the same cables between ISP modem and router?
Check the QoS settings on the router. Turn them off and test.

what the HW of the router??
have you tried to lower down the WAN port speed, disabling the qos or upgrading the firmware
