Title: Planning to Migrate DNS-321 to DNS-323 with ST2000DL003
Post by: dividedhighw on July 28, 2011, 08:13:22 AM
Hey Folks,

Wondered if anyone can tell me the *least* painful way to migrate from a working DNS-321, Raid 1, 500GB setup to a DNS-323, Raid 1, 2TB (using Seagate Green ST2000DL003 drives)?

Naturally, I'd like to preserve my data.  Yes, I have a separate backup, but wondered if there's any strategy I can use to avoid starting from scratch (restoring from that backup).

TIA for any info/advice!

DH

Setup the DNS-323 and format the drives as RAID1.

Take one if the drives from the DNS-321 and put it in a USB caddy and copy the files to the new NAS.  If you are using windows get the Ext2ifs driver to let you read the drive.

You can't just plug in one of each drive because doing that will only create a 500 GB RAID 1 and leave the remainder of the 2 TB drive.
