Title: A multi location sync/backup setup - Is this possible?
Post by: ibAdam on January 29, 2009, 12:02:57 PM
Hello fellow DLinkers! I am trying to figure out how, if at all to do the following.

I have four family members that want to link our DNS-323 devices (one has a DNS-321) together in order to backup and access each others digital pictures. Each of us live in different towns but are within a few miles of each other. What we want to try to accomplish is that when one person saves their photos to their DNS-323, one by one the photos will automatically sync with the other DNS-323s. This doesn't have to be real time but maybe once every couple days. This way each of us have automated offsite backups and the second nice thing is we can then access other family member's photos locally within our own home network without crossing the internet to browse through others photos. Anyone have a idea?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME!!!

Is there a funplug mod for rsync? That's how some other brands do it is through the rsync utility.

Use the builtin FTP on the 323 and let your family members use a FTP application such as FileZilla to access it.  You'll also need to set port forwarding on your router to accomplish this.
