Just FYI, always check directly with Dlink.com or the regional Dlink web site for your region to make sure your getting official OEM FW updates.

why don´t we do something instead grumbling all the time?
we could start a big action convincing people not to buy any link product until d-link does something to improve this firmware...
we could create a letter and all angry customer could sign and then send it to d-link...
i don´t know how to do this, but i would support it...

Hi,

For Me sending mail's to D-link it's a wasting of time ,
Source code GPL for this firmware is open,
now we must find Guru from Linux and firmware's for router,
Open site with project and improvements,
We can donate him via Pay-pal for new features and new firmware's.

All tools for make image and source application is available on site ,
we can do more application new interface also WWW and LCD menu.

So we must start search this guy on other forums like guys from DD-wrt or etc...
and negotiate price,
if we pay 5 or 10 € per person and all users donate him - they can get nice cash :).

Regards.

All that money really worth it? Why not get a router that does supports WRT and be done with it?

Of course its not worth any extra penny, you are absolutely right, was paid enough money for this piece of cr*p. It would be nice to have a properly working firmware (even I'm not going to mention about annoying fan) but for free as it is included in router price. All project takes ages even without guaranteed success, this is my opinion. It is painful truth.

Understand man, I do agree, anything you buy should work well and we shouldn't have to be beta testers for companies who develop this stuff. We live in an imperfect world and sometimes we and other make mistakes or do the wrong thing and thus we learn from mistakes or we learn from what results are when we try different things. Sometimes there are good things made well, then are are bad things made badly. I can't say either way why or what went on with this router. I haven't had a chance to get my hands on one. I presume initially it was a good idea and probably started out being a good product. However something got dropped down the line and with all that has occurred over the past 5-6 years, things changed and priorities were changed as well. Sucks that things had to happen like this and good products probably got left in the dust some how. Who knows.

How ever it comes a time that you have to pick up the pieces, figure out what the next move is and move on, even if you have to take a loss and find something else. I believe all Mfrs have good products and poorly developed and supported products. You also have to find whats works for you and what is good too. Why consumers fail initially to do research and look at reviews and get on forums and ask questions before they buy. We all look the eye candy thats on the box at the store and say "Oh I gotta try that or gotta have that." Sometimes that comes to bite us in the end. I know all to well.

I just downloaded the version from the french site, I noticed that the second link to the German FTP site appears to link to a German language version of the firmware. Although my command of German is reasonable there is just something weird with a router speaking german, they should all speak english. Anyone able to confirm that its in German or not?
