Title: Much Ado About Nothing...
Post by: JavaLawyer on August 03, 2011, 05:17:02 AM
So, it looks like D-Link's new marketing strategy for the DNS series is embedded in the new ShareCenter site. Thus far, D-Link has released newer iterations of their two-bay NAS (DNS-320 and DNS 325) to replace the DNS-321 and DNS-323. I'm waiting for D-Link to announce a replacement for the DNS-343 or a higher-end product with more than four bays.

Has anyone heard anything about upcoming product releases?

I'm not sure if you have seen this one > http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=DNS-1200-05 (http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=DNS-1200-05)

I have not seen any press releases that suggest will be the replacement for the DNS-343. This may be a different category since this is a NAS/ISCSI box, but it is a 5 bay unit.

I believe the DNS-1200 was released sometime earlier this year.

The Taiwan D-Link site (http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/) contains two DNS models not available in the U.S. (or anywhere that I know of). the DNS-346 and DNS-356. Both of these models have been out for some time (at least on the TW website).

The DNS-346 looks like a rebranded DNS-343 (i.e. ShareCenter). Looking through the posted manual, I don't see any discernable difference, neither externally nor internally.

The DNS-356 is a "5-Bay iSCSI Storage Enclosure". From the photo in the user manual, the DNS-356 looks like a garage project that never took off. It's not the prettiest looking box.
