Title: Using as a Repeater

Hi,

I was wondering if it possible to use the DIR-825 as a repeater. My main router is a Airport Extreme but it doesn't reach the whole house. Now what I'm also wondering if I can use the repeater as well as a SharePort for my external hard drive while it is being used as a Repeater. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I actually use the 825 as my main router and the Airport extreme as a AP in the living room. You can do the same for the 825 I suppose too. Just connect the 825 using the LAN ports in back, not the WAN port.

Although I could do that, it would require me running cables all through my house. Do you know of any way use it as a wireless repeater or is there just no way?

It can't be used wirelessly as a repeater. The only way it can be used is via Lan cable and use it has and AP. These types of routers are designed to be used as stand alone routers and its possible to connect other relays or extenders or boosters to them to extend the range, however using them to extend the range can only be done in a wired to AP set up. I recommend using actual AP devices or extenders if you need to get signal farther.

I think you might be able to replace the firmware with new software, such as DD-WRT, which provides the wireless repeater functionality.  I'm using an old Linksys that way, works great.  YMMV.  I believe DD-WRT has the software package for the DIR-825, but check the DD-WRT Wiki.
