Title: iPad, iPhone support
Post by: indothai on August 16, 2011, 07:24:25 PM
Would love to see support for iPad and iPhone on these NAS devices.

I would like to be able to view files on my DNS-320 from my iPad or iPhone, and I think it can be done.

Not that I'm putting anything over D-Link's head, but sadly my next NAS purchase will not be from D-Link because it doesn't support file viewing on iPad or iPhone.   :-[

Just get a file manager application that supports e.g. SAMBA from the App Store, there are lots available.

... or fun_plug it, install PHP, and then use a php-based file manager that supports iphone/ipad?

ckarvonen,
can you list a couple of apps.  I'm using GoodReader but can't connect to DNS-320 via FTP.  Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

benarcher,
I thought about fun_plug, but the lack of clear instruction (linux newbie) and questions is preventing me from trying, (I actually tried it but nothing happened), questions:

- My DNS-320 is full of files, if I fun_plug it now will I lose my files?
- If I un-fun_plug it, will I lose my files?
- If DLink issues a firmware upgrade, and I applied it, would I have to redo fun_plug?
- Does fun_plug have a web interface or do I have do do everything command line?

The above are just some of my top questions on fun_plug and I have search through (http://nas-tweaks.net) for answers but I don't have the time to "rummage" through the site to find my answer.

Not that I'm being lazy about fun_plug, I got my hands full with "life" and can't dedicate hours upon hours on this.

I'm still willing to do fun_plug, if you can possibly guide me, greatly appreciated.

I'm able to view files using GoodReader using regular FTP now, I jumped straight to enabling SSL/TLS which did not work.

Spent some time trying to figure out FTP but it seems that FTP with SSL/TLS will not work on my iPhone or iPad.  It will work on PC-based FTP clients.

FTP (regular)from PC (LAN): Yes
FTP (regular)from iPhone/iPad (LAN and Internet): Yes (GoodReader, Air Sharing)
FTP (SSL/TLS) from PC (LAN): Yes
FTP (SSL/TLS) from iPhone/iPad (LAN and Internet): No (GoodReader, Air Sharing), "Error: SSH error (-1) Failed sending banner"

I tried putting the NAS on DMZ to make sure I didn't screw up on port forwarding/mapping, but still can't get it to work on my iPhone/iPad.  Will be contacting support for (GoodReader, Air Sharing) and see if they can figure this out.

Hi there.

May I know if the Filebrowser used is for remote access?
I have problems with Shareport Mobile and would like to try Filebrowser. Before I purchase it, I have the Fileborwser Lite version for trial but have not been able to set up for remote access. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
