Title: DNS-343 - System Log: Fan Can't Rotate
Post by: CanadianClub on August 17, 2011, 06:56:30 PM
The system log is reporting this error every 5 -6 minutes.  I never had this problem until I upgraded the firmware to 1.04 to try and solve another problem related to a Volume1 is in degraded mode message on a RAID5 Configuration. I am now running a simple 4 X 2TB drive configuration and I am getting this message.  The temperature readings on these drives vary between 38 and 48 degrees C.

In other reports of similar problems, advice has been given to manually turn these drives on using the admin portal  I cannot find this toggle anywhere.

Upgrade to the latest beta firmware version and the error will disappear.

The "Fan Can't Rotate" error is a bug (i.e. erroneous error) that appeared in FW version 1.04 and was corrected in firmware version 1.05b01. The beta firmware is available here: ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Multimedia/dns343/Beta/Firmware/

Thanks for this tip. I have successfully applied the firmware and I will check the system log and fans moving forward.  Thanks for this.

Glad to help. The latest beta firmware resolves that issue, so I'm sure the log will be clean.
