Title: Built in DynDns update won't work
Post by: paulgj on August 19, 2011, 11:24:40 AM
Hi, I have the DIR-655 Rev B with the 2.03NA firmware and am trying to get the dyn dns feature to work.  Unfortunately it will not push the IP address to my dyndns account.

I have all the correct settings in the panel but still nothing next to the status line.

I've double checked all my settings but still no joy.

Anyone else know a way to get dyndns to work?

TIA for any tips.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off QoS options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Thanks FurryNutz.  On a hunch I changed the dyndns password from length 16 which included special characters to length 10 including only letters and numbers and that enabled a successful update.  Wondering if there are limits to passwords that the firmware can store or if it was just a fluke that it didn't work the first time  ???

That actually sounds familiar. Also it won't take host names longer then 18 characters I think? Thats because thats the default for the 3 servers it comes pre-built with.

hmmm, my hostname is paulgjackson.dyndns.org which is longer than 18 characters but it still took it.

Intereseting...did it work? you might want to make another DNS account and set up a shorter name and try different PW and see. Let us know how it goes.
