Hi Folks!
I am the proud owner of a new DNS320 with 2x2Tb drives in standard format. I'm using one drive to store music on for streaming around the house, and the other is for storing my DVD's and utilising the torrent client.
So far I'm quite happy, the price of the unit is excellent, and I've got a lot of bang for my buck, however as I'm running the torrent client, the machine doesn't hibernate and as such the fan is on all the time and sometimes is quite noticeable. Also the torrent client is a little limited (can't see how to delete an unwanted torrent, no ipfilter (for what it's worth!) etc). I'd also like to control the torrents form my android phone, but haven't had much luck with D-Load... so...
Should I give Fun_plug a go? I realise that it probably invalidates he warranty, and isn't for the faint hearted (I have limited knowledge of Linux but follow instructions well!) but I suspect that the ability to install Transmission may outweigh that. What are your opinions, is it worth the hassle? Should I wait for the next Beta release to see if things improve? Will installing Fun_plug actually get around the fan/hibernate issue?

Fun_plug is not a D-Link product, therefore you would be better served asking your question on a Fun_plug forum.

FFP is the way to go if you want basic shell access.
It will not invalidate warranty of the NAS as this is not a replacement firmware.
Getting FFP installed is fairly easy so is Transmission. And it does not resolve the fan/hibernate issue as this is entirely dependent on what you have running on the NAS itself.

Thank you Albert, good to know about the warranty side of things.
I shall take the leap I think and have a play with Fun_plug. The fan side of things has been resolved by taking the top off, and running a 100mmx100mm fan off the USB port and sitting it on top... the temp has dropped from 44 to 38 and the small noisy fan is now off, the big fan is silent! I shall have to wait on the new firmware for the hibernate side of things.
