Title: Outlook / Exchange Port Block
Post by: klaglo on August 22, 2011, 08:32:20 AM
Hi All, was wondering if anyone can assist me.

I can connect to Internet perfectly fine.  I can even VPN back into my office.  However, once connected via VPN and I launch my Outlook Client, I'm not able to connect to get emails.
When I run a "netstat -a", I get my "SYN_SENT" to all my office domain controllers and exchange servers.

However, if I connected via my Starhub USB Broadband dongle, everything works perfectly fine.

What settings do I need to do on my router?  I tried port forwarding and application rules but none worked.

Thanks!

What HW version is your router?
What FW version is currently loaded?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off QoS options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

I would start by calling your IT.  The ports are going to depend what kind of server (POP, IMAP, Exchange, etc) and what kind of VPN you have.

Hi Hi,

Router is DIR-655 A3, 1.33NA
ISP is Starhub Broadband
With Motorola Model 5121 connected to DIR-655

DNS Setup is via Wizard with Manual Key.
IP Address has been reserved for my Notebook
DNS Relay is ON
Firewall settings at Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

Is there some Port Forwarding or Firewall settings I need to configure?  This happens to my E585 Huawei Device as well.   I'm suspecting the I didn't configure some NAT or some rules.

Can advise?

Yes, there may be, but without knowing more about your mail servers and VPN, we cant tell you WHICH ports to forward.
