Title: Significantly slower than G router?

I upgraded to the 825 from an old Linksys G router, and I'm now experiencing significantly slower speeds.  It's particularly noticeable on torrents; on the G router I was routinely getting 200k/s downloads, and on the 825 I don't think I've broken 70.  I disabled QoS in case that was the problem.  The router is reporting that I'm connected at the full 300 mbps, and I'm literally sitting next to the router (and only getting 80% signal strength?). 

I should also mention that my upload speeds seem just fine...I'm uploading at about 150-200k/s.  For some reason my download speed will barely break 75k/s

My wireless adapter is an Intel 5100 in my Vaio SR 190 laptop.  I'm having issues with the 5ghz band as well, but I'd like to get the 2.4ghz network set up before I start worrying about that.

If there's any other info I can give which would help, please let me know.

I also tried something else to test it out:

I had downloaded the Windows 7 Beta from the Microsoft site the other day on my old router.  I got 4 connections, and it downloaded anywhere from 200-450k/s.  I tried again tonight with the DIR-825, and got no more than 100k/s with speeds dipping to as low as 30k/s.

There's definitely something not right here, but I have no idea whether its the settings I have, or whether the router itself is to blame (either defective or just not good in general)

Do you have port forwarding enabled properly for your bittorrent client?

In the router settings?  I don't have port forwarding enabled at all, but utorrent doesn't see any problems with my connection...could you perhaps give me a brief explanation of how to do that? (I'm relatively new to the advanced settings).

EDIT: I have the uPnP forwarding enabled on both the router and the torrent client, so that should automatically take care of the forwarding should it not?

Also, it doesn't explain why downloads from non-torrent sources are also running much slower.

Well you're right, it doesn't explain about your non-torrent downloads. 

But regarding port forwarding, I use Vuze (formerly Azureus) and there's a place in the Vuze options where is says 'listen to port' or something.  I changed it to a certain port number. [ ...Either 49154 or 56912 (something like that)]  Then, in the advance settings of the 825, under Port Forwarding you put in the IP address of your computer, type in the application name or nickname and then enter that port number and select for UDP under Protocol.  Repeat in the next line and select TCP Protocol.  It may even have an option for TCP/UDP Protocol...I can't remember right now in which case you only need one line.    If you use multiple computers you'll have to use different ports for each respective IP.  So for example if laptop A is using 49154 for Vuze then laptop B needs to use 49153.  I hope this helps.

Make sure your running Firmware 1.01.  I read reports where it fixed peoples speeds.

If you hardwired the computer, do the download speeds improve?
