I am not sure if this answers your question, but I found this a while ago and found it to be most useful for enabling the FTP on the 320, but you may need to go over everything 3 or 4 times. "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCxdGWmrcOM&feature=related" is the link. If the link is bad, go to YouTube and search FTP on a NAS. I really wish they had "stickies" in these forums for common problems, known issues and work arounds, supported drives, and assorted guides / links. Actually, I am kind of amazed that they don't, it would really make their equipment much more user friendly. Anyway, good luck.

you can build a cheap desktop and use a program called
FREENAS
it will turn your desktop in a full blown nas system with every option under the sun, and its free.
Just need a cheap desktop
You can build 1 for under 200 on new egg
Best of all, you can add more drives!

Agreed, FreeNAS is an exceptional software product and since it's an open source project, the features and support are unmatched. For experienced PC enthusiasts that aren't afraid to get their hands dirty, building a homegrown NAS is a great DIY project.
