Laptop will not shut down with the DWA-643 inserted in the expresscard slot. Operating system is XP SP2 Media. Laptop will just reboot itself. Of course, if I hold the power button down the system will shut down or take the card out. I have tried the Microsoft methods to shutting a system down if the system will not shut down. I've tried two different cards and get the same result. Any ideas or patch to resolve? Also, I have updated to the current driver on the Dlink download site. Using Windows zero configuration. Upgraded to latest BIOS available.

Check your bios for S3 power saving, if it's on try disabling it.
-
Lycan, thanks for taking time to offer a suggestion. My HP dv9008nr bios is very limited in configuration changes. So I'm unable to try this. If you have any other ideas I sure would like to hear them. Thanks again.
-
HP implies that the Power saving option is in their BIOS.
It was a very long link, but they did mention power saving modes.
-
Oh I believe you there is some documentation referring to the power setting. It's weird how limited the configuration settings are.
-
Have you tried contacting HP?
See what they say about it? We have a tech here that has a laptop from the same familiy, and does not have this issue.
-
Thanks for the response, HP was the first to be contacted. HP stated they were unable to help and the problem was with D-Link and to contact them.
-
Thats unfortunate. We would be happy to help you and might even be able to work out a conference call with them. Like I said we have a tech here that has the same family of laptop and does not have this issue. I will confer with him further about his configuration and see if we can't find a discrepancy between you and he.

Thanks for continuing to assist me. I've upgraded to Vista and upgraded the driver for the DWA-643. Still have the same issue. It appears some setting is still restarting my system. It would be great if we can get together to work this out.
-
Had an interesting situation. I reflashed the Bios, put the DWA-643 in the slot. I shut down the system and it actually shut down. I thought "this is good" but it was premature. I tried to shut the system down again and the system restarted.
-
Then is sounds like the issue is definately a BIOS vs Adapter situation.
When you flashed the BIOS for the laptop, did it give you options for S3 power saving?
-
Lycan, when I flashed the BIOS, I'm not given any options. Also, the BIOS does not give me the power management options. I would imagine the S3 can be controled via the operating system. I will admit we are getting into an area I'm not very well versed in. I'll start reading about the S3 power option. Direction you provide will be very much appreciated.

I would imagine the S3 can be controled via the operating system.
I would imagine that you can not control the suspend mode settings via the OS. I have only been able to modify that setting in the BIOS.
-
OK, I can accept that. Any other thoughts on how to solve this?
-
Lycan, you made this statement "We have a tech here that has a laptop from the same familiy". Can you find out what BIOS version this laptop is using?
-
Was there any solution for this? Have the similar issue.
