Hi,
I have changed nothing in my configuration of my NAS. Yesterday it quit responding. All lights are blue and blinking. I have 4 PCs on my home LAN. Cannot log in or access my files from any of them. Any ideas on how to approach this problem? I am in the US and have been running the latest approved version of the firmware for several months - I think it is 1.09.

I'll assume you already tried powering down the DNS-323; made sure the HDDs were firmly seated; and checked all wired connections.
You can try resetting the DNS-323 to the factory default settings. This will erase all your user defined settings, but will not impact your HDD configuration or data. Using a paperclip, press and hold the reset button on the rear of the DNS-323 for more than 5 seconds.
If this approach fails and you need to retrieve your data, you can try either mounting the HDDs in a Linux PC, or alternatively there are two popular Windows applications available that DNS owners have successfully used to mount HDDs in Windows PCs.

Thanks for your response. I held the reset button in for 10-20 seconds. The network connectivity light, right below the power button/light came back on, but still no connectivity. I think now I need to find those PC/Linux disk read programs.

Did you try swapping your your network cable?
If you hit a wall and need to retrieve your data through alternate means, Ext2Read and R-Studio are two applications a number of DNS owners have successfully used to recover (or simply access) their DNS data. DNS users have had a greater measure of success with R-Studio for mounting and reading more complex RAID arrays and JBOD.

Thanks for all your tips and suggestions. I found the problem and feel the need to update this with a final post. I run a program called Cisco Network Magic. It is a very helpful program most of the time. However, it was responsible for my frustration this weekend. Somehow, it flagged my DNS-323 as an 'intruder' on my network. It put a black X next to the storage graphic. I had never seen this before. I thought the black X was a symptom of the problem, not the cause. I removed the 'intruder status' and once again my DNS-323 is performing well.

Thanks for posting your resolution.
It's usually the simplest things that are overlooked.
