Hello, I am a new poster and am new here.
I have a new D-Link DNS-321 with 2X WD 500GB SATA drives and all seems to be working well except that now my Dell XPS-420 does not want to go into sleep mode as long as the DNS-321 is connected and powered on. If I shut down the DNS-321, the Dell goes into sleep as normal. When the DNS-321 is connected to my router, and powered on, and I command the Dell to sleep, it starts to and the power button light even starts blinking as normal. But then after a few seconds, it wakes up again on its own.
I do have the Dell's LAN card set not to wake up the computer in the BIOS so I am not sure if the issue is with the Dell or with the D-Link NAS. All I know is shutting down the NAS allows the Dell to go to sleep normally.
My monitor does go into the powersaving mode not come back on until I press a key so the computer is doing something, but not sure what. Any ideas or suggestions?
Thank you in advance for any replies.

The problem is with the Dell and it's operating system.

Ok, I fixed it! I went into the event viewer and it confirmed the PC was waking up due to the network card. I went into the network card's properties and unchecked all the references to having the card bring the PC out of Hybrid-Sleep mode.
Now, when the PC goes into Hybrid-Sleep, it stays off until I press a key to wake it up.
Still not sure what the network card was getting to tell the PC to wake up but the DNS-321 really added to the PC waking up every 4 to 6 minutes. Anyone know how the DNS-321 could be doing this?

Have you ever used the scheduled downloads feature on your DNS-321?
In most cases communications between the computer and the NAS are initiated by the computer, but, you can configure the DNS-321 to download files from a network share - this will cause it to try to access the computer, which in turn will cause it to wake.
