Title: How do I setup my router and notebook to get 802.11n?
Post by: Nina-Sky on September 17, 2011, 02:17:52 PM
Ive just bought a new Toshiba laptop that support 802n, and have an old HP which does not.

When choosing 802n only, the Toshiba for strange reason cannot connect to my router. Why is this?

Is there something special to do to get 802n working?

What network adapter do you have in the laptop? Or at the very least, what model laptop do you have? I would guess your laptop is on some short of b/g/n mode which isn't compatible with the routers g/n mode.

It is a Toshiba Satellite P750-13D, and the wireless network has something to do with Atheros.

Try changing the WiFi mode from Mixed to Single mode G and try with out any security as a test to see if it will connect. Then try changing from Single to mixed G and N and test onces more. Then try turning on security to WPA-Personal Cipher type to TPIK, then try Auto. Let us know.

Did you change the WiFi mode on the 655 router too?
You should start with the 655 router first and make the changes there.

On the routers web page, go to Setup/Wireless/manual settings. Change the Wifi Mode from Mixed A B G N to Single mode G or Mixed G and N if you have N supported devices.

I would make sure the drivers are up to date for that device and wireless card on the PC.
Does the wireless card on the PC support 5Ghz? Just because you see it there doesn't mean it's supported. I would contact the OEM Mfr of that PC and check.
Also for 5Ghz, the 655 doesn't have a 5Ghz radio, only 2.4Ghz.

Nope can be either, just depends on what router you got and the features it supports.

I know, I was making a general statement about routers. I hope I didn't confuse you. Hope it's working better for you now.
