Plugged my HP Deskjet 5400 into my DGL-4500, but can't figure out how to print to it. Tried printing from the one I used to use, which shows up as "HP Deskjet 5400 series" on the list, but it doesn't work. Also tried adding a new printer via the Control Panel, but the window that pops up to search for available printers freezes immediately and I can't X it out click cancel or anything and it doesn't search. Please help.

Yeah, you're going to have to download some particular printer software/firmware. Furry will tell you which it is once he reads this post.
You can always get a wireless print server and connect wirelessly, but they're not that cheap.

I use one of those because it's not convenient to have my printer near my router.....and vice versa.

This printer USB and or have a network LAN connection by chance?
If your using the USB port on the router, you'll need to install Shareport on the PC's that your trying to print from. Have heard good and bad stories from different people on experiences with this. Preferred is using the LAN connection on a printer if it came with one, then it's just connecting to the IP address of the printer. If your trying to use USB via the router, then shareport needs to be installed. I would recommend Kargos suggestion getting a USB to LAN or Wifi adaptor so you can print to the printer using an IP address instead of trying to connect using USB and Shareport.
