Title: Tracert problem.
Post by: sascwatch on October 05, 2011, 04:10:13 PM
Hi, wondering if someone can help me with this one.

My internet works fine, no problems at all, but I have a weird problem which I've never seen before, when I do a tracert to any site, all of the hops time out except the very last one.

I am running a new rev b DIR-655 router, on cogeco cable internet.

Anyone ever have a problem like this before?

edit- It seems to be my firewall blocking the tracerts (ESET Smart Security).

Just FYI, if your behind a router most of the time, your 3rd party firewall can be disabled or opened up. These routers handle all of the traffic and works very well. After all not a lot of hackers going after us mom and pop users for emails and pictures.  ::)

If your talking about NOD32, I personally disable the "Web access protection" which is their firewall, but thats because I have experiance in knowing where I am going on and what kind of things to look out for on the net. Disabling it does lower your security, so keep that in mind. You could just add a exception for port 7, and that should fix your issue.

On a side note, if your using the NOD32 firewall, there really isn't a need for your Windows Firewall. That can be turned off pretty safely.
