Title: Authorization on FTP Server (User & Password required)
Post by: Bruegge on October 06, 2011, 03:21:21 PM
Hey,

I set up my DNS-320 as a FTP Server to access my data also via FTP from everywhere. Therefore I'm using dlinkddns.com.
Unfortunately there is no check on user and password by entering e.g. ftp://host.dlinkddns.com:21/Volume1/Folder1. Thus everybody could access my data without any authorization. Is there any way to force an authorization (user and password)?

Thanks for your help!

Hi,
Have you set up user accounts with specific names and passwords?  Did you authorize "anonymous" annything in accounts or networK shares?

I would add to what cable2 says.  Don't, unless you absolutely have to, expose the root directory, just set up shared directories with user and password and remove 'anonymous' and 'guest' accounts then you should be secure.

Thx for your help. The Access is now restricted (user and pw have to be entered) but unfortunately after the login it doesn't show the folder structure of the server. It just happens nothing. Using e.g. FileZilla an time out error occurs. Any ideas why this changed after changing the anonymous rights?

Hi,
you might try checking out my previous post and the other guys tip to disable SSL, if you enabled it.  http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=42217.0 , it might help.  Also, there are some Dlink tutorials on youtube which might help you setup your ftp server and a few other options.  They are below, but I forget which is the ftp one.  A little trial and error should help get you set up.  Good luck.

no directory listing sounds like you need to add TCP port 20 as well.  This would be the active vs passive FTP server setting.

Or just try this for Filezilla:  http://www.nodans.com/index.cfm/2008/4/24/Fix-for-Filezilla-Failing-to-Retrieve-Directory-Listing (http://www.nodans.com/index.cfm/2008/4/24/Fix-for-Filezilla-Failing-to-Retrieve-Directory-Listing)
