Title: empty playlists when viewing from XBox 360
Post by: stuckO on February 07, 2009, 11:55:34 AM
I'm stumped...

The only playlists that I can get working on the xbox 360 are .m3u lists located in the same dir as the mp3's that are specified in the list. Example:

/volume_1/media/music/song1.mp3
/volume_1/media/music/song2.mp3
/volume_1/media/music/list.m3u

list.m3u contents:
song1.mp3
song2.mp3

So that works, but as soon as I try to move the playlist up a dir I can't get anything working.
Here's what I've tried:

/volume_1/media/list.m3u

list.m3u contents:
/music/song1.mp3
/music/song2.mp3
(I tried removing the starting "/" and then making it "./" but still didn't work)

I realized after reading posts that I had forgotten the device is linux based and I was using "\" instead of "/", but after correcting the slashes I still get empty lists in the 360 (well the 360 actually states that it lost the connection to the computer...).  The reason I'm even trying to use playlists is because for some reason if I select songs (which should build a list of all songs shared) it states it's building playlist and then that message goes away and I'm left with nothing to play (my full list is about 1800 songs, but if I set my upnp av folder to one artist, approx 50 songs, it works).  So if I use the same number of mp3's (roughly 1800) through media player to 360 it's fine, but it fails when doing the same with the DNS321.  I have even sanitized filenames as I was having issues before where nothing (no albums or artists) would appear.  Changing the filenames seems to have cleared that up.

Has anyone gotten large m3u playlists that point to files in multiple directories working with the DNS321 and 360? If so can you post the formatting?

Thanks for any help, this is getting frustrating...

EDIT:
Running firmware 1.01
Network is 192.168.1.X
Xbox 360 is up to date

So am I to understand NOBODY has gotten playlists working for the 360???  Can anyone from dlink comment?  Is this feature supported or am I wasting my time trying to get something to work that just never will?

Thanks in advance

Has anybody gotten playlists working with the 360? I'm still not able to use playlists that point to songs in subdirs of where the playlist is located.

Thanks

Playlists don't work for audio or videos. Videos dont seem to work. I dumped about 30,000 files onto my new DNS-321 and Audio files I see 200, and videos i believe i found 15. Playlists do absolutely nothing, trying to move files around on the device to see if i can get different results, also changing the root folders around to see if that helps. So far no luck. Been screwing with this for a week now.

Are you playing back a playlist for music located on the NAS in there original locations when it was created created? If the music was on your PC or any other folder location when the playlist was created the playlist will not show the correct location of the media file.

none of the playlists have directory location, they only contain file names, so that it assumes that all media files are in the same directory as the Playlist file. All I can say is that I am not too happy at the moment with any compatibility with the Xbox 360. I just spent about an hour checking my X360 and PS3, and everything now after a few tweaks appearrs to work on my PS3. still missing a few Videos (probably because wrong video format), but the X360, sheesh

Does the playlist work when you run it on your PC?

I've tried changing the paths in the playlist as mentioned in my first post and nothing works.  If I make a playlist that is playable from my pc it does not work on the xbox.   I had found a post for the DNS323 that said playlists should work, are they supposed to work on the 321??  If so what is the path I'm supposed to use in the playlist?  The only playlist I can get working is one that points to files in the same folder as the playlist is located, which is kind of useless as I'd like to setup lists that contain songs from more than one artist.

Thanks

I have had no luck at all with the 360. My PS3 appears to work flawlessly. And to confirm, playlists dont work with songs from other directories. I don't know if its a length issue with the file name or directory structure.

To play some videos which didn't show up in another directory structure, i renamed the file to something simple 1.mp3 and 1.mpg, and put it only 2 directories deep, instead of the original location which was about8 directories deep.
