Title: Dir-655 not linking up with sb6120
Post by: erickeri on October 21, 2011, 07:52:12 PM
Pretty much like title says.
I called up the ISP and had him activate the Sb6120 modem.
The Dir-655 will not link up with the Sb6120 unless I drop the WAN port speed down to 10MB. Then it will connect. (the light on the modem will come on). I thought the modem was bad so I had the ISP deactivate that one and we tried another Sb6120 samething.

I did the firmware update on the Dir-655 to current but samething.
Firmware Version :1.35NA,  2010/11/12

I just checked both cable modems with a belkin n1 router and they linked up with each other no problem.
So that is making me think the router is bad.

If i hook it up directly to the computer It will link up and no problems.
The modem I am using is from the ISP is a sb5100.

You're probably already doing this but are you using the ethernet cable that came with the router?

I would try a 30/30/30 reset on the router if you haven't done that already.

I would try connecting direct to modem and see what rate your PC connects to Auto. If 10Mb, then its a issue with your modem. If higher then 10, setting your NIC to hard 100full, and see if any connection issue. Make sure to use the same ethernet to connect modem to PC as you used to connect modem to router.

Once the modem is ruled out, try connecting the WAN port of the router to your PC, set a static IP (192.168.0.2) and try the same tests. If modem > PC are fine, and Router > PC are fine, its probably the Auto negotiate between the two. If it works with old router, I would probably take kargo's advice. If still no go, call Dlink and request RMA.

I have my 655 Rev. A2 partying with my SB6120 all day everyday....even get the blue gigabit LED on the 6120...  I think its a great combination....

When you updated the firmware, did you unplug the WAN port on the 655 ?

Change the cable out between the 6120 and the router. Some cables are made cheaply. I recommend shortest length of CAT6.
