Hi
I just bought a DIR-600 to be used as Access Point (AP) with my old DI-624.
wifi1 wifi2
| |
modem -> DI-624 -> DIR-600
| |
wire1 wire2
My problem is that if I connect via wifi to DIR-600 (wifi2) I can not access Internet.
I can connect to Internet from all other points (wifi1, wire1 and wire2)
I have not change anything in the configuration of DI-624 compair to before I connected DI-600.
I have tried to configure DIR-600 in two different ways.
1/ Disable DHCP, Disable UPnP and set a IP-adress (192.168.0.2) that is outside DI-624 DHCP-range (192.168.0.10-200).
2/ Enable ACCESS POINT MODE under SETUP - INTERNET-
Both with the same result. No connection to Internet on Wifi2
I use different SSID. (tried a short test with the same SSID but it did not help, will test more when wife and my girls have gone to bed, :-))
All my PC is defined in DI-624 DHCP Static list and when I connect via Wifi2 I get the right IP and DNS DHCP adress are 192.168.0.1. So it seems like that part works. BUT I can not PING 192.168.0.1 and a ipconfig /renew fails. I can access all other PC in the network both connected to DI-624 and DI-600.
Any one that knows what fault I have done?

Edit: Just discovered that I can access Intenet from a Xperia mini pro connected to wifi2, good but strange. Why can not a PC do the same?
Edit2: If I connect to wifi2 from a PC and try to ping 192.168.0.1 from PC (cmd) it does not work. But if I login to DIR-600 I can ping 192.168.0.1.

Review the DGL-4500 forum sticky for making a router into an AP. You can do this and use the same SSID on each router, all you have to ensure is that you use different channels on each router, 624 set up for say ch1 and the 600 setup for say channel 6.

Tnx.
That is exactly what I have done... I hope. Any thought why a wired PC on the AP (DIR-600) works perfect but not a a wfied PC on the same AP. And also, it is strange that Xperia works but not a wified PC...

What wireless modes are you using? I would use Single mode G or mixed G and N if you have N supported devices.
Try turning off QoS, SPI, WMM Enable, Short GI on the 600 AP. Turn everything off that you can since the extra features are not needed.

It seems to work now. I did nothing about the settings, except setting the same SSID, I just powered down both DI-624, DIR-600 and all wified PC's. Then I powered up first DI-624 then DIR-600 and last all PC's. Now their is no problem at all.
So probably everything was OK from beginning but somehow windows had problems with the setup when I introduce the new AP and connected through different AP with different SSID from the same PC... I dont know...
I need to have this setup running for a couple of days without problem to be confident that it works....

Good to hear. Enjoy.

Last night I had to take down the power to DIR-600. After power ON I hade the same problem again. What I find out was that UPnP was active after power OFF/ON. Yes it was deactivated before, I have to report this as a bug to DLINK. After disactivation and a Power OFF/ON on DI-624 it seems to work again.
Do you know why UPnP shall be deactivated when using a router as access point. I do understand why you should deactivate DHCP and also the part with setting a IP adress.

I maybe that it's set to come on automatically. I presume that you disabled uPnP before.
-
Yes I deactivated UPnP before I restarted DI-624. What do you mean with "I maybe that it's set to come on automatically." My English do not understand that ;) , sorry.

I ment that it's possible it could be turned on automatically with a reboot. However actually, it should not be ON after your reboot if you have disabled it using the routers web page.

I sent in a bug-report. Let see what day say.

Ok, What happens if you swap routers and use the 600 as the host router and the 624 as the AP?
-
I have thought about that and it is possible but it will be some manual hacking of FW-setting and setting up DHCP and other... I think I live with the problem I have. It will only hit me if I need to power off/on or need to Reset the unit...

Hi
I got a quick answer from D-Link. It is a bug and they gave me a new Firmware ver. 2.11 and it does not activate UPnP after a reset or a power OFF/ON.
