Title: Simultaneous Bridge and AP Function
Post by: enigmo on October 26, 2011, 01:45:45 AM
I already have a DIR-855 and was considering using a DAP-1522 in conjunction to bridge my 5GHz N to my living room to feed HD media to my PVR box and also feed wired-only clients like my TV and BR player. But, in my new flat I find that the walls are pretty thick and my wifi signal is dropping off pretty quick, so  I was wondering if you can configure the DAP-1522 to simultaneously be a wifi bridge to feed my media clients, and an AP to feed any laptops that might be in use in the living room?
Ta in advance.

I believe you can only use the device in a gateway or AP mode. If your walls are fairly thick. I would recommend running the 1522 in AP mode however I might connect the DAP with a wired connection to the 855 instead of relaying via wireless. If your building materials are impacting the signal, you need to bring a good stable single to the area your trying to cover and extend. The DAP should be able to do this however you should consider connecting the DAP via wired instead of relay wireless. You can still use the same SSID as the 855 is using however just change the channel so it's different on the DAP.
I run a 825 in the office and down the hallway in the living room I have a DGL-4500 running in AP mode with a wire. Does very well.
Let us know how it goes.
