Title: Change Hard Disk Configuration

Hi guys,

I've got a little problem with my DNS-325.
Some days ago I changed my "Volume 1" HDD (160GB, used in RAID-1 mode) with a new 2TB HDD.
I have also another 2TB HDD as "Volume 2", so at this moment I should have two HDD of the same size (2TB).

But...
I formatted the new "Volume 1" HDD again in RAID-1 from the "Disk Management" section of the D-Link Share Center (web interface).
And now its size is only 160GB instead of 2TB:

Last but not least, I'm not able to start again the <Set RAID and Re-Format> option because when I push the button nothing happens...and so this is the situation:

The DNS-325 does not support RAID resizing. The size of the smallest HDD when the RAID 1 array was originally created determines the size of the RAID volumes. Adding a larger capacity HDD later will not resize the array.

Example: If your RAID 1 array originally consisted of: 160GB and 2TB HDDs, the RAID 1 array will  create two volumes of size 160GB and 160GB. If you swap the 160GB with a new 2TB HDD, the RAID array will still maintain two volumes of 160GB and 160GB even though there are two 2TB HDDs.

If you are planning on creating a RAID 0 array, I strongly suggest you create a full backup of your data on another physical storage device. If one HDD fails in your RAID 0 array, you will lose 100% of your data. Assuming you have a backup (and if you don't you should create one), you can reconfigure your HDDs from scratch to create the RAID 0 array.

You can attach the 2 TB HDDs in a Windows PC and delete the partitions so the DNS-320 won't recognize the previous formatting, then you should be able to configure everything from scratch.

RAID resizing is a pretty big leap in terms of re-engineering the firmware, so it's not something I would put in the wishlist. I would place this functionality into the realm of a dream or fantasy list. ;)

I own a couple of DNS-343s, not DNS-325s, so I'm not sure why your DNS-325 is getting confused when you ask the unit to reformat the two HDDs. Perhaps another user whose walked through the reconfiguration process could help you troubleshoot the HDD reformatting steps (although purging the HDDs in a PC will work).
