Title: New DNS-320: RAID is degraded and can't manually sync
Post by: stromm on October 31, 2011, 04:34:42 PM
So, I don't know if it's the drives I bought, but I've tried three or four times and can't get the status to be anything other than degraded.  SMART testing completes some times, but not usually on both drives when both are connected at the same time.  SMART always passes when either (but only one) of the drives are connected.  Drives pass all tests connected to my PC.

First format of both drives took and hour, then the sync took something like 9 hours.  Still showed degraded.

Here's my drive(s) info.

Western Digital WD20EARS-00MVWB0 2TB 5400RPM 64MB cache

I was able to put data on the array too.

Am I missing something here?

Hi,
I am not sure if this applies to your drives but I think the "EARS" series has problems with any sort of raid array and are definitely not recommended for this reason.  Check this, http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/archive/index.php/t-1320098.html ,for some more information or try googling WD TLER PROBLEMS.  Anyway, good luck.
