Title: Computer not identifying wired connection
Post by: Edalken on November 02, 2011, 08:30:11 PM
Hey guys, just got a new dir-825 and installed it. The wireless connection works, but it seems my computer doesn't recognize the wired connection through the router. I think the router does, since the computer light is on, but on my configuration window it just says non identified network. Any change I try to make makes the earth light glow orange and my computer stops recognizing the router completely, forcing me to restart it.

I'm on Windows Vista, hardware version is B1 and firmware is 2.50VT (for Quebecor media's ISP Videotron). Should I try contacting Videotron's customer support first? it seems like a problem with my computer, and I tried different ethernet cables to see if they were broken but no dice.

Any help would be very appreciated!

Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Cat6 or 5e recommended.
Ensure the NIC on the PC is in good working condition. Update drivers if needed. Try swapping out the NIC or test same cable between router with a different PC to test.
Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Figured out the problem, turns out it wasn't with the router at all!
