Title: How to setup FTP with SSL?
Post by: Geraner on February 15, 2009, 05:17:59 AM
Hi,
I bought a DNS-323 and upgraded to the latest firmware 1.06.
In the release notes it is written:
Quote
Feature Additions:
5. Support FTP over SSL/TLS
But when I'm in the admin-view for the FTP-Server on my DNS-323, there is no possibility to set SSL.

How to setup an FTP-Server to use SSL with certificate and so on?

Regards
Geraner

FTP over Explicit SSL is definitely supported in 1.06 and it works.  When you turn on FTP it's immediately available but you have no control over it- can't turn on/off FTPES, can't specify PASV range, can't install your own SSL certificate (one is provided but I have unanswered questions about it, PM me if you get yours working).

I still doubt it will work over the internet though; let me know if you have success.

To test your 323, Fire up FileZilla, set up a new connection to your 323's IP address (or ddns name), set the server type to FTPES, login type normal, choose "Active" under transfer settings and connect.

I'm trying to setup my DNS-323 with SSL/TLS, and if I add it to my DMZ (for testing purposes), it works perfectly, but behind the routers firewall, it doesnt, so it must be a matter of opening the right ports, I guess? I've tried opening 21 and 990 but no go.

Without the DMZ, I don't think it's possible to make it work behind the router-- too many ports are needed for TLS.  Since we don't have control over what ports it can use, we're stuck with what we have.
