If I turn off traffic shaping does that turn off qos? Right now it is greyed out and checked, so I'm not sure. I'm not sure if these two settings are dependent on each other.

Personally I have always disabled QoS on this router. Mainly because it likes to reboot itself with it on. I've had three of these now (two replacements) and they all do the same thing. I disable QoS and traffic shaping otherwise it creates a lot of problems on the wireless side of things.

For the average home user that does emails and surfs the web, turning off QoS and all the extra options within it is recommended. QoS is mainly for having multiple devices online that need alot of bandwidth, like Gaming and game consoles and helps them and other devices get a fair share of bandwidth by prioritizing the data coming and going to each device while they are online at the same time, ensuring that all devices get a fair share of Internet usage with out one device hogging it all up.

I have a lot of devices connected including my sons Xbox 360 and if you turn on QoS the wireless just drops connections and lags like there is no tomorrow.
I wonder if the unit is just underpowered to handle everything it tries to do?
I suppose in fairness these are old units by technology standards but either way, turning all that stuff off is the only way to get a reasonably functioning router in my experience.

Then you need to correctly setup QoS to handle the xbox and it's services. Just enabling it will not have any effect on XBL. Have you read the sticky post on XBL and QoS?
