Hiya, i have been having alot of lag on xbox live so i want to try port forwarding to see if it helps, i know which ports i need to open as i have read it on the xbox site:
(http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/1280/networkports.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/143/networkports.jpg/)
Uploaded with ImageShack.us (http://imageshack.us)
However, i need some help doing it as i am clueless on the subject and have found the articles i have read too confusing and technical.
Ok so i am in the dlink port forwarding page but i am confused about something, i have followed the intructions from portforwarding.com, however when i am in the port forwarding page it looks different to the picture in the intructions, the picture in the instructions page looks like this:

what i have looks like this:

You can see that instead of having ''ports to open'' in the menu i have ''public port-private port'', can someone explain to me what i am supposed to do here. Also i have read that you need to make a static ip on the xbox settings for the router to go to, i watched a video on it and that looks pretty simple, i am just confused about what to do with this menu, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks..............

Sure you have a DIR-615? I dont know of any 615's that have a reboot button on the left. What does it say on the sticker on the bottom. Like what model and hardware version?
-
it says dir 615 on the front of the router...............
-
by the way hardware version is d4
-
What is provided by the ISP?
If you have only one xbox then it's probable that you can use this router.
You can take a look at the DGL-4500 forum for some info on setting up XBL. Theres a sticky there.
I would recommend getting into a DGL-4500 router for gaming though.

Well that would explain it..looks like Dlink doesn't offer support for that router on their US site. Did you get it here in the States? I checked their UK site, and they have it, but no emulators. But yea, that looks very different then all the other 615's, odd.

no i am in england, i have followed the instructions i find on a youtube video to the letter, but when i use portchecker to check if the ports are open it still says they are not, i don't understand this..........
-
Have you checked if they are open by bypassing your router?
Also what ISP do you have and what modem?
-
i added dd wrt firmware as i couldn't open ports with the default firmware, sadly i think my router is dead, its not the end of the world as my router is one of the cheapest on the market, its an excuse for me to buy a better one and hopefully have better luck....................
-
I would recommend the DGL-4500 for gaming. Great router.
-
I have a feeling the issue wasn't the router. But oh well. Hope things work out for you.

ok guys just to update you, the router is not dead, a friend came to my house and helped me with it, my router is now up and running with the dd wrt firmware, however i am wondering if anyone here has experience with this firmware, the reason i ask is i don't know how to create a password to secure my network, right now my network is unsecure, in the firmware i go to wireless security, but there is no option to set a password, it says security mode disabled, and a list of options should i want to switch on security, the options are as follows:
WPA Personal
WPA Enterprise
WPA 2 Personal
WPA 2 Enterprise
WPA 2 Personal Mixed
WPA 2 Enterprise Mixed
Radius
WEP
Which one should i go for, and will this give me the option to put a password on the network?
I should clarify that 2 other people use the wireless network, so it needs to be accessible to them, but secure so people outside can't use it. My worry is that it says ''all devices on your network must use the same security mode'', i am assuming this means that all 3 of us will have to have security mode set to the same option in the list. As things stand i am the only person that can access the firmware control panel, when my brother puts in the i.p. into his address bar all he gets is a screen saying the page could not be found or something along those lines.
So is there another way for them to switch the security mode to the desired option without entering the firmware, or does this have to be done via the firmware on all 3 computers, thanks in advance for any help..................

You need to visit the WRT forums for anything regarding WRT. This site is for OEM FW.
However, I recommend using WPA2 and AES Security, however the security settings you set are dependent upon your devices and what they support. Need to refer to each device Mfr specs on there security support.
-
ok thanks, i have posted the question on the dd wrt forums, waiting for a response.............

Enjoy.
