I upgraded then downgraded from 2.00 to 2.03 back down to 2.00, and whenever I'm doing about 600kB/s+ it resets itself. Drops connection drops wireless, wired, and the globe internet icon goes Lambert/orange. I've reset the router to default and it still does that. What could be the cause?
I've done a lot of changing around, disabling unicast, changing from WPA Auto to WPA2, etc etc, I just changed the router to Netgear WGR614 v7 and it works perfectly fine now. I just wish it had N
-
try changing the WiFi from from mixed to single mode G or N?
-
Didn't help
-
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area?
-
DHCP
Advanced DNS Service enabled
Use Unicast Enabled
MTU 1500
Mixed B G N
Channel 8
20 MHz
Invisible
WPA Auto
TKIP and AES
DHCP Lease time 1440
Always broadcast
QoS off
SPI Off
iPhone, laptops, cordless phone but that's using VoIP service but the phone itself may or may not be interfering. Like I said, only happens when YouTube videos are streamed 720P+, and other downloading apps like when I tried to update Batman Arkham City.
WiFi in the area, but the channel shouldn't be interfering.
-
What browser are you using? Try a different browser like Opera or FF.
What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.
What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.
Turn OFF Short GI under Advanced Wireless.
-
Chrome, tried FF, same effect. DSL. Modem is Sagecom 4300. Bridged Modem to router, modem is just a modem with no router features. I also just switched back to my Netgear WRG614 v7 and it works fine. Used Mixed BGN, tried singling them, no good. I was using WPA2/AUTO TPIK and AES. I will now try turnning off short GI, but that's a wireless function, this is wireless and WIRED so not sure if that will make a difference, and will turn off Advanced DNS. The DNS are being filled out.
-
Not that it really matters (since you said you bridged it) but the 4300 isn't a stand alone modem. Atleast not according to this. (https://windstream.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/467/~/bridging-gigaset%2Fsagem-4300-modem) I see DHCP, NAT, Firewall, UPnP..all kinds of things a standard modem would have. Just FYI.
-
Seems like a router issue. Swapped out with a new one, no difference. Switched to a Netgear WGR614 v7 and it works fine. No cut outs.
-
Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using teamviewer. (http://www.teamviewer.com)
-
The router reset when the channel or the n/g/b mode changed. Channel 8 is similar to channel 6 used by phone or similar electronic devices. You should use channel 1 or channel 11. The MTU value should use default 1492. The channel width should use auto 20/40 Mhz. DIR-655 is very sensitive to these settings.
-
if the Internet light or the globe light going to amber..it means both wired and wireless connection is getting intermittent Internet connection..am i right??
Try to set the WAN port speed to 10 Mbps
Try to observe the connection behind the modem to check the if the modem is giving stable Internet connection
-
modem gives perfect connection. I switched to my old net gear and havent had any problems with it. i did try channel 11 and MTU 1492, doing good, so far... MTU 1492 didnt help any, switched to 10mbps, will update.

Let us know, send a PM and we can review the router settings with you via teamviewer.
Are there any log entries when the routers resets during this time frame?

update, tried using multicast stream after calling dlink up and it was suggested. i still get disconnects
-
Do you use the DHCP dynamic and Channel 1?
-
chan 2 yes dhcp dynamic
-
DHCP dynamic
Advanced DNS Service enabled
Use Unicast Enabled
MTU 1492 (Most ISP support for DSL, Cable use 1500)
Mixed B G N
Channel 1 (channel 2 is a side band of channel 1)
auto 20/40 MHz (40Mhz for N mode)
Invisible
WEP
TKIP and AES
DHCP Lease time 1440
Always broadcast
QoS off/on doesn't matter
SPI Off/on doesn't matter (I turned it off)
Reconnect Mode: always ON
Firewall Endpoint Independent
Enable UPnP
WAN port speed auto 10/100/1000Mbps ( try 10 or 100 if still has problem with auto)
Still has problem - check whether all devices disconnected or just one computer disconnected. It could be just one computer driver problem

hey furrynutz, trying to put the 655 into PPPoE mode would not connect to the internet what so ever. I do have the log in info, but im not a PPPoE connection from my ISP. power cycling it did nothing. modem's in bridge mode, 655 in pppoe mode, info is set into 655, no change.
These are the messages in the log.

What does DHCP for connection type under Setup/Internet/Manual Do?
-
I can't answer that honestly. I've used it, it connects to the internet, and I did a speed test, and I see that once it gets over around 575 mB/s the internet cuts out, slows down below 575 and resumes test. Gets faster than 575 mBytes/s, maxes at 700ish, crawls back down.
-
I could have a look at it while it's connected to the ISP modem in that state if you want me to. Still feel there is an issue with the ISP modem or a compatibility problem here. Need to review the router settings when it's connected to the ISP modem though. Also need to take the 655 router to a friend or families place and test on a different ISP system or modem.
-
I had a similar issue, and it has since stopped since I did the following:
1) upgraded to the latest firmware on the DLINK site (the "check for latest firmware" button didn't work, I had to do it manually.
2) turned off the "always broadcast" DHCP compatibility option
3) turned off DNS relay
4) changed the wireless channel setting from auto to channel 6.
I'm not sure which one did the trick, but give it a shot and see if this helps :-)
-
all 3 did not work. still loses internet after 1 min of video content.
-
Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using teamviewer. (http://www.teamviewer.com)
-
You did review it. I used your suggestions and came up short. I'm not a pppoe connection either. It seems like if I exceed 500kB/s it resets the connection, releasing DHCP then renewing it, then the globe icon turns orange and reconnects.
-
Might be a compatIbility issue with the router and modem.
-
try the following setting from invisable to visable, somethimes notebooks have problems with invisisbel devices. Even look that the the power ouput is not high but medium.
Can you tell me your wireless card from your notebook or desktop, i hope for you its not an atheros.
-
When the router operates at 600 kb/s + reset, it should be the WAN setting, do you use auto/10/100/1000 Mbps or 100/1000 Mbps? You can set the manual uplink speed higher than your ISP speed. Like I have 15/5 Mbps, I set the uplink at 5500kbps. I set my RTS/Fragmentation Threshold at 30000. These can boost up the data transfer speed. These settings are wired and wireless for WAN upload/download speed.
-
I set it to visible, I am using ethernet on it not wireless, not sure what card they use but my ethernet connection resets it too. The RTS threshold maxes at 2347 so I can't do 3000. I even changed the IPv6 to auto detect, before it was link only. Still no good.
-
Is this reset happening due to the modems lease time expiring by chance? Ran into this the other day with a 815, turns out the ISP lease time is set to exprire every 59 minutes. They connected directly to the ISP modem with a PC and looked at the ipconfig /all and saw that the acquired date and time and least expired was 59 minutes in which they saw getting disconnected from wired and wireless connections from the router as the router was loosing the WAN IP address least from the modem. This is a ISP issue. There working on getting the least time up'd.
Any chance this could be happening with yours?
We might have another looksee via teamviewer sometime. ::)
-
You never mentioned you enabled UPnP and Multicast Streams. Also, disable the security setting to test it before you reset the security WPA/WEP. Make sure you have the update network driver for your computer.
-
no lease time not an issue. set upnp and multicast on. i have no issues with my netgear wgr614 v7 so its definitely the 655
-
DIR655 RevB should disable SP1.
-
SPI works on my B1 router hand I have had 2.00 and currently 2.03 on this unit with out the resets. And connected to a SM model modem. It's not FW. Either there is a issue between the modem and router, external interferences or a mis-configuration on the router or possible this unit has a problem.
Lets check out the routers web page again once more.
I would recommend if you have a friend, family or neighbor with internet, take this router to there house and connect it up and see if the problem persists. If so then I would return the unit for RMA.
-
Fixed, got a new router. Thanks for all the efforts.
-
Enjoy.
